Updates on the US Open

Andy Murray, the former world number one, celebrated an outstandingly exciting comeback at the US Open 2020.  Andy defeated Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan after a 2-0 set gap, 4:6, 4:6, 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (7:4), 6:4.

Due to injury after several hip operations, the player from Scotland had previously missed eight of the last ten Grand Slam tournaments. 

The Russian Daniil Medvedev won with 6:1, 6:2, 6:4 against Federico Delbonis from Argentina. Daniil dominated the game clearly.

Tommy Paul, the US-American, lost against Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria with 6:4, 6:3 and 6:1. The Hungarian Márton Fucsovics defeated Hugo Dellien from Bolivia with 6:3, 6:3, 6:1.

Looking at women tennis, the US player Sofia Kenin defeated the Belgian Yanina Wickmayer with a stunning 6-2 and 6-2 result. With the match and its result, she proved her role as co-favourite of the US Open.

Another US player who secured the ticket for the 2nd round is Amanda Anisimova. She beat the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova with 7:5 and 7:5.

Former world number one Kim Clijsters from Belgium lost 6-3, 5-7, 1-6 to the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova. Venus Williams lost against Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic with 3-6, 5-7.

Tsvetana Pironkova from Bulgaria beat the Russian Liudmila Samsonova without much struggle with 6-2 and 6-3.

Not that much luck had Shuai Zhang from China who lost with 6-4, 3-6 and 2-6 against Ysaline Bonaventure from Belgium. The Russian Anna Kalinskaya defeated Nina Stojanovic from Serbia with 6:4, 6:3. The Canadian Leylah Fernadez won against Vera Zvonareva with 6:4 and 7:5. 

The Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea defeated Christina McHale from the US in two sets with 7:5 and 6:4. The Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza beat Nao Hibino from Japan 6-4, 6-4 after teething troubles.

In a quick game with 6:1, 6:1 the US player Madison Keys won over Timea Babos from Hungary. In three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-0) the American Lauren Davis was defeated by the French Alizé Cornet. Katrina Scott from the US won against the Russian Natalia Vikhlyantseva with 7-6 (7-3) and 6-2.
