The French Open has started. What has happened so far?

Let’s start with the female tennis professionals. The US American Serena Williams defeated Kristie Ahn, also from the US, with 7:6 (7:2), 6:0. In case Serena wins the French Open, it would be 24th Grand Slam title. So far only the Australian Margaret Court holds to record.

Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic was also successful and won over Oceane Dodin from France with 6:3, 7:5.

Nearly 12 months after her last tour match, the German Andrea Petkovic lost against Tsvetana Pironkova from Bulgaria with 3:6, 3:6. 

The US American Amanda Anisimova defeated Tamara Korpatsch from Germany with 2:6, 0:6. Dutch Kiki Bertens won over Katarina Zavatska from Ukraine with 2:6, 6:2 and 6:0. Varvara Gracheva from Ukraine lost against the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 7:6 (7:2) and 6:4. 

How about the men at the French Open?

The US American Jack Sock defeated his compatriot Reilly Opelka also from the US with 6:4, 6:4, 6:3. He will meet the Austrian Dominic Thiem in the next round. The US Open winner Dominic won against Marin Cilic from Croatia with 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3. 

Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan defeated the Canadian Félix Auger-Alisassime with 7:5, 6:3, 6:3. 

Alexander Zverev from Germany won in Roland Garros against the Austrian with 7:5, 6:2, 6:4. 

The Italian Fabio Fognini lost against the Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin with 5:7, 6:3, 6:7 (1:7), 0:6.
