SS Lazio interested in Mario Götze

World Cup hero Mario Götze is on the verge of retirement at Borussia Dortmund. The ex-national player has to find a new employer and it seems like now the 27-year-old is again associated with an Italian club.

According to an Italian media report, the Italian Serie A team Lazio is interested in the ex-national player Mario Götze of Borussia Dortmund. This was reported by the “Gazzetta dello Sport” on Thursday. Götze’s contract with BVB is expiring, and he will leave the club.

Lazio’s sports director Igli Tare was active as a professional in Germany for many years and once also piloted Götze’s world champion colleague Miroslav Klose to Rome. According to “Gazzetta”, however, Götze’s commitment is “only an idea” so far.

Lazio is not the first Italian club to show interest in him. Inter Milan, AC Milan and Lazio’s local rivals AS Rome have all been said to be interested in Götze.

However, a few weeks are likely to pass before a decision is made on the future of the 2014 world cup champion. Series A is still paused indefinitely due to the corona virus suspensions. However, the future of the season is expected to be decided shortly. SS Lazio is currently in second place in the standings.

Götze has scored 57 goals for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in 229 Bundesliga games and played for Germany 63 times (17 goals). In the current season, however, the 27-year-old has lost his regular place with BVB and has only played occasionally.

Talks about extending his contract have not led to any result. Moreover, Götze had already publicly stated that a move abroad was an option for him.
