RedBull overtakes Mercedes in the championship lead

Following the weekend in Monaco, Mercedes relinquish a championship lead for the first time since the 2018 Silverstone race. Max Verstappen is now four points ahead of Hamilton In the drivers’ standings. Red Bull leads the constructors’ standings by one point.

The last weekend in Monaco was not one of the best for Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton somehow managed to finish in seventh place, whilst Valtteri Bottas had to retire after a problem during his pit stop. Toto Wolff, the Mercedes motorsport boss, sees Monaco as a weak track. The Austrian said, “Monaco has never been a good place for us. There have been outliers upwards in terms of pace, as in 2019, but it’s similar to Singapore in the past.” He also added, “ff you’re behind from the start and have no grip or confidence in the car, it’s hard to fight back. It’s a weekend to forget, but we won’t do that because we’ll put our finger on it tomorrow.”

The reason for the disappointing results of Monaco nor a solution to the problem could be provided yet by the team of Mercedes. Since the start of the turbo era, Mercedes has won five races in Monaco. Compared to that, the team from Red Bull has only won twice in Monaco.
