Player Tested Positive to COVID-19 prior to US Open Start

The organisers of the Grand Slam tournament in New York published a statement saying that a tennis player was tested positive for the coronavirus. The unnamed player had to self-isolate for at least ten days, and the process of contact tracing was started.

Even though the US Open organisers did not want to reveal the player’s name, it became public just shortly after. Several media, including The French newspaper “L’Équipe” and other media, identified the player as Benoit Paire. Marcel Granollers will replace the Frenchman’s spot.

In the first round on Tuesday, the tennis professional from Spain will meet Polish Kamil Majchrzak.
