With the 2:2 at home against Hertha BSC Berlin, autumn champion RB Leipzig buried his realistic chances for the Bundesliga title. Leipzig’s coach Julian Nagelsmann calls his team a “student team” after the game. But he also attacks the DFL.
The chance to return at least to second place in the table and thus overtake Borussia Dortmund after their 0:1 home win against Bayern Munich, he said, was almost an opportunity. “We did not take advantage of this opportunity,” Nagelsmann noted. It was the 4th draw from the last five Bundesliga matches against. On the other hand, things look much brighter for Hertha. In three games under the new coach Bruno Labbadia, the Berliners have not lost a single match.
“Our opponent did not play an exhilarating game, and we give him a point on the house“, Nagelsmann said annoyed. “We’re getting a standard that we defend unbelievably and without resistance“. It was “impossible to explain”, Nagelsmann remarked in the press conference after the 90 minutes, why his players defended “once again so disembodied”.
But the German Football League (DFL) also received its side blow. In clear words, Nagelsmann criticized the game schedule: “I don’t want to look for an alibi, but I don’t quite understand the game plan if we think of something with five changes and protect players, and then Hertha plays on Friday, we play on Sunday and then Wednesday the first game. It is now once again that we get a crappy game plan. I can not quite understand that. That’s just the way it is. Nobody cares“.
