Lewandowski takes FC Bayern to the cup final

Once again it could be a double success for FC Bayern. Yesterday, Wednesday, the Munich team defeated Frankfurt’s Eintracht 2:1 and is now in the DFB Cup final for the 24th time. In the Bundesliga, too, things are going well for the FCB, and a new championship title is already within reach.

The defending champions worked their way through to the semi-finals on Wednesday evening, where they defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 (1-1) thanks to goalscorer Robert Lewandowski. The Polish player’s winning goal in the 74th minute was only recognised after video evidence (VAR) because the referee team around Marco Fritz had decided on offside. With this result, FC Bayern and Bayer 04 Leverkusen will face each other in Berlin on July 4. This final pairing has never been seen before in the history of the DFB Cup.

Ivan Perisic was able to put the Bavarians in the lead with a striking header in the 14th minute. But the Munich team missed several times to extend their lead. So the game remained exciting, even though the Hessians were still far from another surprise coup like the final triumph against FCB 2018. But after the 1:1 equaliser by substitute Danny da Costa (69th), everything seemed possible all of a sudden again. But in the end, it was the strong Robert Lewandowski who saved the Bavarians in the 74th minute and paved the way to the cup final.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick commented aptly after the match: “We made life difficult for ourselves. You could tell that my team was getting tired. We’re in the final, that’s what we wanted“.
