French Open Results

The German Alexander Zverev is out. Zverev got a doctor on the court, complained and threw the racket but in the end, he to admit his defeat in the quarter-finals of the French Open.  The flu-weakened Zverev, the current world number seven, lost against Jannik Sinner with 3:6, 3:6, 6:4, 3:6.

Dominic Thiem from Austria and the winner of the US Open 2020 won against the French Hugo Gaston in round of sixteen with 6:4, 6:4, 5:7, 3:6, 6:3. Thiem had to fight hard to win the match. He needed more than three and a half hours to score the win. Thiem will face Diego Schwartzman from Argentina in the quarter-finals. 

The world number two from Spain, Rafael Nadal,  secured his spot on in the quarter-finals in a super-fast game. He defeated the American Sebastian Korda with 6:1, 6:1, 6:2 in just under two hours. 

The 19-year-old Iga Swiatek from Poland defeated world number two Simona Halep from Romania with 6:1, 6:2. This was a big surprise for everyone; it is the highest defeat of a top-seeded player in the history of the French Open. Swiatek will face in the quarter-finals either Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands or Martina Trevisan from Italy.

There is only one player from the top 5 of the world ranking list left at the French Open 2020 with Elina Svitolina from Ukraine. The Australian Ashleigh Barty, who is the World number one had cancelled for the French Open and US Open due to the Coronavirus. Naomi Osaka from Japan decided not to play the French Open. The Czech Karolina Pliskova was kicked out in the second round.
