Dominic Thiem, who defeated Alexander Zverev last year in New York, has lost round one of the French Open.
The Austrian lost to Pablo Andujar from Spain with 6:4, 7:5, 3:6, 4:6, 4:6. The match took over 4:28 hours, but in the end, Andujar was just the better player that day.
Pablo Andujar could not believe his win, “it’s like Christmas for me. Dominic maybe didn’t have his very best level.”
So far, this season is not the best one for Dominic Thiem. Thiem himself does not seem to be too concerned himself. “I don’t see it as a difficult phase, but as a great learning process, and I hope I can come back stronger than before,” he said before the start of the tournament.
