FC Bayern continues to present a masterly performance and also takes the difficult hurdle Bayer Leverkusen with flying colours. The leaders of the standings fell behind Leverkusen, who were initially very strong, but then set the course for another commanding victory with a double strike just before the break.
The Bayer team had to do without their star striker Kai Havertz, who was replaced by Alario. Lucas Alario was then also the one who brought Leverkusen into the lead after only 9 minutes. Bayern Coach Hansi Flick had no personnel worries and only replaced Hernandez by Boateng in the central defence and could otherwise rely on the same star team as in the 5-0 against Düsseldorf.
After the FCB had fallen behind, the German record champion turned up the heat but had to lurk for counterattacks against the well-positioned Leverkusen team. Kingsley Coman was able to equalise 1-1 in the 27th minute before Leon Goretzka (42nd), and Serge Gnabry (45th) brought the 3-1 lead in double-strike style.
The fourth goal for the Bavarians, and thus the decision in the match, was finally scored by Robert Lewandowski after an assist from Müller in the 66th minute. Lewandowski thus marked his 30th goal of the season. For Müller, it was assist number 20.
Florian Wirtz, only 17 years old, scored in the 89th minute with his first Bundesliga goal to make it 4-2 FC Bayern thus solved the probably most difficult remaining task in the final spurt of the season with bravura.
