Bundesliga Kick-off! FC Bayern continues Where they Left Off

Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and FC Bayern got off to an excellent start in the new season. After FC Bayern’s 8:0 victory over Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also won their opening games. The Saxons were merciful in their 3:1 victory over Mainz, and on Sunday evening Wolfsburg and Leverkusen parted without a goal. Hertha, Augsburg, Hoffenheim and Freiburg celebrated away victories and Bundesliga returnees Bielefeld scored in Frankfurt.

On Friday evening FC Bayern opened the season with a smashing 8-0 opening victory over FC Schalke 04. Gnabry started the goal festival after only three minutes, Lewandowski collected four scorer points against pitiful guests from Gelsenkirchen, where coach David Wagner has his back to the wall.

Borussia Dortmund also started strong on Saturday and won its home game in front of 9,300 spectators against Borussia Moenchengladbach with 3-0. The Favre team lost the ex-Gladbacher Hazard early by injury, but after interaction between Youngster Bellingham and Reyna, the score was 1-0. Haaland then transformed a penalty after VAR decision into the 2-0 lead in minute 54. Later the Norwegian also scored the 3-0 final result, celebrating his 15th goal in the Bundesliga in only 16 matches.

RB Leipzig also starts successfully into the new Bundesliga season. After the victories of FC Bayern and BVB, the Saxons followed suit on Sunday with a sovereign 3:1 against FSV Mainz 05. The FSV was well served with the defeat in this height – last year’s humiliations against RB (0:5 and 0:8) still seemed to hurt. Especially in the first period, the Leipzigers caused a lot of pressure – Forsberg’s goals by a penalty kick and Poulsen were the logical consequence. When Mateta shortened quickly for the Mainz team after the change of sides, RB responded just as promptly by Haidara to the 3:1 final score.

SC Freiburg won the Southwest Derby at VfB Stuttgart 3-2, ending an eight-year dry spell on the Neckar. Petersen set the course in the eighth minute, Sallai and, shortly after the restart, Grifo made a clear affair of this Baden-Württemberg comparison. Kalajdzic (71st) and Silas (81st) brought the Swabians closer again late in the second half and created a crackling tension in the final phase. However, VfB failed to score the third goal.

The 1st FC Cologne suffered a bitter 2:3 last-minute defeat at home against TSG Hoffenheim. The Rhinelanders fell behind with a counter-goal, made up for it with newcomer Andersson and fell back again just before the break by Kramaric. In the 86th minute, Drexler produced the supposed 2:2 final score. But once again Kramaric scored in the second minute of overtime to win for the Kraichgau team.

SV Werder Bremen, who only managed to save themselves in the relegation last season and had previously lost twelve home games, lost 4-1 to Hertha BSC in their opening match at the Weser Stadium. Pekarik, Lukebakio with a double strike before the break and Matheus Cunha in the second half ensured clear conditions in favour of the Labbadia team, which only had to swallow one goal by the former Hertha Selke. Cordoba scored in his first Bundesliga game for the capital city club shortly before the end of the game.

The game between Eintracht Frankfurt and Arminia Bielefeld ended 1-1. Soukou took the DSC into a cold-blooded lead in the 51st minute, and Silva scored the equalizing goal eleven minutes later.

The 1st FC Union Berlin their home game lost 3-1 to FC Augsburg at the encounter with former goalkeeper Gikiewicz, who scored through Vargas, returnee Gregoritsch and in the final phase Hahn. In the meantime, Bülter had managed to equalize.
At the end of the first matchday, VfL and Bayer Leverkusen met in Wolfsburg. After Leverkusen had a slight advantage at first, the Lower Saxons came into the game better in the middle of the first section – but clear chances were rather scarce until the whistle for the break. In the second half, the match was hardly more compelling. In the end, the goalless final result was a logical outcome, as both teams shunned the final risk and defended both defensive lines well.
