Due to the ongoing corona crisis the legendary Wimbledon tennis tournament cannot take place in 2020, it would have been the 134th edition of the most traditional tournament known in the tennis world.
Since its premiere in 1877, the tournament has only been cancelled twice, during the two World Wars between 1915 and 1918 and 1940 to 1945. Since 1946 there has been no further interruption.
The organisers of Wimbledon announced that given the course of the corona pandemic, it is not possible to hold the Grand Slam tournament from 29 June to 12 July as planned. Instead, it has been postponed until 28 June to 11 July 2021.
